What’s the difference between a chest of drawers, lowboard, highboard and sideboard?

Chest of drawers
The chest of drawers is closely related to the sideboard and remains a lasting trend. What defines this classic are its drawers, which typically run from top to bottom.

Sideboard
The sideboard is the modern evolution of the chest of drawers. As it usually does without drawers, a sideboard generally offers significantly more storage space inside and is the ideal choice when you want plenty to disappear neatly behind closed doors.

Lowboard and highboard
Lowboards and highboards are further variations of the classic sideboard. They, too, provide generous surface space on top and plenty of room inside. As the name suggests, the only real difference from a “standard” sideboard is the height. While lowboards are often found beneath televisions, the taller highboard frequently provides a home for photos and vases in living rooms and entrance areas.

Built to last: how to configure a high-quality sideboard

Your bespoke sideboard would not deserve its name if it couldn’t stand up to the individual challenges of everyday life in your home. That’s why we use only first-class materials and design the construction not just for visual appeal, but for outstanding stability as well.

Material thickness

The carcass and fronts of your made-to-measure sideboard are each 19 mm thick – robust enough to handle a great deal. The back panel is also 19 mm thick, meaning flimsy rear walls are a thing of the past. In fact, your sideboard can even be used as a room divider. For the internal shelves, you can choose between 25 mm for especially long shelves that need to bear heavier loads, or 19 mm for standard use.

A wide selection of scratch-resistant and colourfast décors is available. For a real eye-catcher, you can even choose different décors for the doors and the carcass. Handle-free opening available

All made-to-measure sideboards from deinSchrank.de come as standard with a high-quality push-to-open mechanism. It combines modern design with maximum convenience: simply press gently and the door opens. If you prefer, your sideboard can of course also be fitted with handles. Here, too, you can choose from a wide range of options to add your own personal touch.
